Here's an interesting article where experts list the 50 films one must see before they die. I'm not sure who the experts are and how they define the best movies, but this list is somewhat suspect to me. After all, Sexy Beast, which I found painfully slow and boring, is #5, but Casablanca is no where on the list. I truly liked The Royal Tenenbaums, but it isn't a must-see movie, the same way The Godfather is. Movies like Casablanca and The Godfather are a part of our collective culture. Lost in Translation is not.
So if you had to pick movies in your top 50 must see before you die, what would you pick? Let me know and I will post mine in a later entry.

That list is indeed, while interesting, somewhat suspect ... Is "Erin Brockovich" really a must-see movie? Not to me ... I would also definitely have included Woody's Annie Hall along with Manhattan
To me, must see movies changed the way we either looked at movies or had an impact on society. At the very least, they were ground breaking within the industry. I think Annie Hall is one of those. I think Ghandi should be on that list. And why is Kurosawa missing from the list?
Of course I'm a bit twisted, but I would choose "Fargo", "What a Girl Wants" and "Tombstone" as definite favorites. Three of the very few movies I can watch more than once. Yeah, one is a sappy one but it's good for a warmhearted cry.
You can tell a lot about a person by the movies they favor. You can even get your cinescope done by sending your top ten favorites to http://www.cinescopes.com/ and what they come up with is a lot more accurate than any horoscope I ever read. I didn't see in the article where this list came from? Do you suppose it was the columnist who wrote it?
